Scaling your Business by Design | Episode 175
Let's talk SCALING by Your Design...
Which is a hot topic coming up more and more lately in conversations with my clients and audience, no surprise as we are transiting Gate 32, the gate of of duration as I record this episode.
Listen in and really feel into this energy and its mechanics (which I call the 'long game cultivation' in marketing) and how it's the best predictor of success in your business (32nd transit or not).
It's obvious, Scaling ≠ throwing spaghetti at the wall... it's instead a process of strategy, intention and aligning to YOUR human design + persisting and keeping course in the long run for lasting results like this 👇
✨Record sales weeks despite less presence IN your business
✨Sales flowing in day and night (mostly passive style)
✨Full programs and happy clients
✨Explosive growth in visibility as...
✨An unmissable profile and personal brand
Which for me translates as more Freedom, more Income and more Impact. And this is what’s possible for you when you tap into your own Design to make your business sustainable, scalable and super satisfying!
That's exactly what I am teaching inside my new coaching container, Build your Human Design Business Minimind, which is sold out as of now but I am opening diverse timezone friendly containers soon.

Hi hi, welcome to the Human Design for Marketing podcast. I'm your host, yvette Mayer, and this show's for you if you're done with cookie cutter marketing and ready to build your personal brand in alignment with who you really are. I'm a marketing expert, human design nerd and intuitive business coach who's helped hundreds of women just like you to elevate their frequency and activate their most magnetic personal brand. Each week we'll dive into practical tips, interviews, conversations and more to help you create an aligned business, a positive contribution and, of course, an abundant life. Let's dive in. Hi hi and welcome back to the Human Design for Marketing podcast with your host, yvette Mayer. That's me. I am super excited to be back in your ears and this week I am going to be talking about scaling your business by design. This is such a highly desirable topic, actually, that the transit of the Gate 32 has really brought to the forefront of my energy and so present in the conversations that I'm having where to tell you a bit more about the Gate 32, this is the gate of continuity, the gate of duration. So for marketing, I call it the long game cultivation energy, and this is how I want you to think about it. It's about seeing the bigger picture. It's about trusting that, even though it will test you and your patience, you must persist towards that dream and goal and that vision that you have cast and really see it through. Stay in it. The only way that you can never lose is to keep on going right. So, with that, the flavor of this that I'm going to be talking about is scaling. That, the flavor of this that I'm going to be talking about, is scaling because that's what you need to do in order to create the impact and the income that you dream of, whilst still having a beautiful level of freedom in your life. And I know that you're here building your online business partly because you do want more freedom. You want to have a business model that is uncapped, where you can help more and more and more and build a legacy from your brilliance, whilst also having this very flexible lifestyle so that you can be present for your children or work and live while you travel, or do less days a week and take care of elderly parents, whatever that looks like for you.
Speaker 1:I really appreciate that part of the draw into having this style of business is to also scale in a way that gives you freedom. So, to make that possible. You, I am sure, are aware that it's not just about growth at all costs. It's about scaling in a way that feels amazing, that does scale you as a human. Yes, you are scalable when it comes to creating your business using the online world, and I'm talking about things like building digital products, repeatable things that can be made once and sold many times. Yes, I know my audience well.
Speaker 1:I know this is part of what you're doing now or what you intend to do, so with that, I wanted to do a couple of things. Firstly, I'm going to talk to you about the steps I've actually got six involved in having this Gate32 energy be present in your business always, not just while we're transiting, which we are. We're transiting. The sun is transiting through the Gate32 right now. I think, as I record this, we're on day three of six. Right now, I think, as I record this, we're on day three of six, and I do work with the transits week in, week out, when it comes to content. So it's not surprising that I'm feeling into this, but, honestly, the transits, it's not just oh, this is what the chart says, it's what is happening, and I know this to be true because I have had so many conversations this week with business owners probably a lot like you who are like I want more clients, I want to get out there more, I don't want to burn out. All of these things are consistent. They're consistent, and so this conversation about long game cultivation in the spirit of Gate32, I think is going to be really relevant to you and how you build your business by design.
Speaker 1:When I say that element this, like scaling by design, it's considering your human design and the kind of business that is reflective of what you truly want, what you desire. This is about you, your energy, the way that's going to feel great for you, whilst also delivering on those beautiful ambitions of yours, which I suspect is to help more and more others humans, with might be pets, who knows but to help at scale as well as create more scalability in your model of making money so that you're being abundantly rewarded for that. Okay, so how, how do you not give up when many things may be your experience and your reality that make you want to quit? Because, let me tell you, as somebody who's been in online business for coming up to six years right now, there have been many, many, many moments when I wanted to quit because it all felt too freaking hard and so I've had to pivot, to reinvent, to slow down, to speed up time and time again. But there is no more relevant story than the story of my pivot into human design for marketing, and I'm going to tell you that story, but I'm going to do that after I share with you the six things that I know to be true that you need to take away from this to help you play the long game and ultimately realize your vision. So the first one is kind of obvious, but it's about you really dreaming big, seeing your fullest potential, taking time away from your business to get out in nature, to connect with your higher self, and some of this can be work around connecting into your human design chart and your purpose inside that, looking into your personality sun gate. There's lots of things you can do when it comes to your vision, but to really crystallize it, I'm talking about how you help people, why you're the most important person or the most relevant person to help them with this particular thing that is so vitally important to you and what you're here to bring into the world so vitally important to you and what you're here to bring into the world and where that's going to take you around, the way you work, the way you live, the way you are recognized, the legacy you built. All of this it's big work, it's big thinking and actually I did say it involves what you're actually going to do for work. But it starts higher order than that.
Speaker 1:Like for me, my bigger vision, like my more holistic vision, isn't human design and marketing. It's waking people up to build a life based on their innate skills, talent, energy and be rewarded for that financially and free of the corporate chains. And it's not like specifically what I do, but it is what I do and that's why this has been my bigger vision. Like this is what I see for myself the entire time I've been online. That has not changed and it was so driven through my own experience of feeling stuck and trapped by my very big career and the luxuries that brought into my life, whilst also being quite unfulfilling whilst also being quite unfulfilling. And so this like waking people up from doing business in a way or doing marketing in a way where they're just following the same sort of rules rather than being true to you and your brilliance and your gifts and your energy, like it all fits. But, yeah, my bigger vision has been that. So you don't need to necessarily start with. You know you and how you do that. That can shift.
Speaker 1:But this big vision and the how for right now, that's step one. So for me, the how for right now is through human design for marketing, and I work with primarily women who have a heart-centered business, who are here to build a conscious business. If you've been listening recently, that's language. I'm adopting A conscious business owner who is about unleashing their unique gifts into the world in service of others and being rewarded for that while you do it. That's my big vision. But part of my vision is also to be able to work from anywhere. I love being free, to not ever feel chained to my desk, to be able to be in my zone of genius and being clear on what that is for me. Doing the work that lights me up. These are all parts of my vision. It's not just a mission statement, it's like really seeing it. So this is support for how to do this for yourself. It's like to do this for yourself. It's like what's the like? High profile goals. But now let's talk about how does my everyday life feel in my business? What am I actually like? What am I responsible for? Who do I need around me for this to be true? That's step one.
Speaker 1:Okay, number two is, once you've done that, is internally committing to the process and the discomfort that is inevitable along the way side of growth, which is putting ourselves in rooms where we feel inferior. It's comparisonitis, it's falling over, it's doing launches that fail, it's getting like even such a line three topic, but you know it's falling down and getting back up again. Like, really committing to this process is what I would say is number two. It's being so locked in on this is the vision and I trust myself to make this happen that your resiliency is a non-negotiable. That's number two. Number three is I'm going to get human designing here is really knowing the strategy of your type and understanding how to make decisions in your business based on your authority. These are like guideposts that are going to help you day in, day out.
Speaker 1:But I will say this and I talked about this on the last episode, this on the last episode there is this element of also not hiding behind In my example. If it doesn't light me up in the moment, then it's not the right thing for my business. That's my strategy is, you know, to be in response, but to keep following what's lighting me up as a generator. That's my strategy, but some of the things that I do in my business don't light me up in the now. They're hard work and it's not always easy, but the goal and this came from a conversation with Emma Dunwoody and myself is yes, and how will it feel when you actually have realized that? How lit up will you be then? How fulfilled will you be then? And therefore, yes, keep moving, keep trusting the process.
Speaker 1:So that is what I would say is number three it's do work with your design absolutely, but also hold it lightly around the in the moment versus the long-term the. In the moment, it's going to feel tricky, it's not going to be easy. Long-term, in the moment, it's going to feel tricky, it's not going to be easy. If building an online business was easy, well, it can never be easy, because everybody would be doing it and there'd be too much competition and it's just not going to happen. Good things, really amazing things, are only possible for us when we're willing to do what others are not willing to do and to take ourselves into situations that are challenging. That's how we grow, that's how you're going to grow your business, all right.
Speaker 1:Number four is knowing, with all that we've already said that business building a business is an investment. It is an investment in your time, energy, money, all of them. Like it's a gamble, it's actually backing yourself. It's gambling on you as the right person to reach the end game. Now, in the process, it's going to cost you. It's going to cost you a lot of time, energy and money. You need to know this. You need to be prepared for this, because I think a lot of people get tripped up when they expect that it's not going to cost. It's just going to be like, if I just put some work in, then it's going to be possible. But no, it's going to cost.
Speaker 1:And actually I often talk to clients about this. Depending on who you are, you are going to have more time or more money when you set your sights on this vision that we've talked about. And basically, the slow road is your time. That's the slower road to getting where you're wanting to go, the faster is using money to get there. There's a couple of ways. I will explain this. So you don't know what you don't know. So when you get into a new arena, which I would call any challenge, to go to the next level in business. That's new for you, and so you don't know how to get there. You can take a lot of time. You can do the research online. You can watch YouTube videos. You can buy low ticket offers. You can selfach. It's going to take you a lot of time. If you're okay with that, then do that.
Speaker 1:For most of us, and definitely for me, I didn't feel I had the time to waste. I needed to get to a place where I felt abundantly successful and able to continue living an amazing lifestyle quickly. So I had to spend more and to invest more money to speed things up, and this is available to you as well. So think about this like. You have to invest. It's all an investment. Your time is worth money. I think we can get confused on this one, where we think that money is worth more than time or worth more than energy. It's absolutely not. I would say it's the other way around. Money is replaceable. It's replenishable Time. No, you only get one experience of life, so I would actually prefer to put money in to speed up the process every time.
Speaker 1:The other thing that I always thought about in the beginning was gosh. When I first got started, I had a lot more savings than when I finally got serious about getting mentoring support and if I had my time again, I would have spent more of that money building my audience through things like paid ads. Knowing what I know now, I could have quantum shifted my size of my audience by just going hard on that. One thing Reflection's a wonderful thing. And also I've changed directions a number of times over the last six years, so it's not a straight line. But just to give you an example of what I'm talking about, facebook ads cost money, but if you want to grow an email list quickly, there's no faster way that I am aware of, a way that I am aware of. All right.
Speaker 1:Number five is being okay with this being slow, slower than you would like and gosh, even with investing in the right support. It can sometimes feel like it's a slow process, and that's because it actually is like it's a slow process and that's because it actually is. Marketing, for sure, is a long game. Building a personal brand is a lifelong endeavor. You do arrive into your business with a personal brand, but scaling that scaling you as a personal brand that is going to require of you to be consistent and cohesive in the direction that you're traveling and the business that you're growing.
Speaker 1:Over the long term, you will not get to a place where you scale to the level that you desire without time and persistence, and sometimes that means investing in things that you are not putting on the front end of your business or are levers in your growth over the long term that don't see a return in the short term. And this has been so true for me that when I speak to the story of my last couple of years, I'm going to get into this more where there have been elements of this is going to cost me money, like I'm not going to bring in as much money or I'm going to spend money over here that I'm not going to see the returns on in the short term, but I really believe in the long term. This is really gate 32 energy, and I have to be okay with that feeling slow in my system, knowing that it will ultimately speed up my ability to succeed over the longer term. Speed up my ability to succeed over the longer term. And number six is that you have to persist, persist, persist. Gate 29, persist, persist, persist, and what this takes is having faith in yourself. So you're going to have to really look after yourself and do the mindset work and show up and be incredibly aware of what you need as a human to be resilient and therefore capable of persisting at times when it feels like things aren't working. High faith, high self-trust are incredibly important. Now, when you've done all of these things these six things that I've just spoken about you're going to realize your dreams and goals. Now, of course, you're also going to need the other side of the how do I scale when it comes to setting up the offers, to scaling out the me, like you know, building a membership, a digital product of some sort, like, how do I do all of that? There's a lot of how we can't get into in a podcast episode, but some of the things that I've spoken about, like investing your time and your money and your energy, are part of the how you can't do this kind of scaling of yourself without going through a very steep learning curve.
Speaker 1:Gosh, if I told you the number of things I've invested in to get to where I am today, you would be like what Even I am like I look back and I've done so much. I've okay. So let's just do a little a little like quick rundown. But I committed to before I was even really making a hell of a lot of money, like I'm talking a few thousand dollars a month I committed to a $20,000 a year mastermind and I stayed in that mastermind for two full years and then the year after that I invested in a coach slash mastermind container that was twice that price. So 20, 40, 80, we're up to. On top of that I've had, let's say, five one-on-one private coaches at multiple five-figure investments. No, like over $10,000, let's call it so multiple five-figure.
Speaker 1:I've done so many courses to learn how. The first big one was Digital Course Academy with Amy Porterfield to learn how to build a digital course. I've done transformational coaching with Jim Fortin. I've done email marketing with Peter Sarris. I have recently actually, jess Tutton. I met in that mastermind. I was the first mastermind I was in. I've learned how to do my own Facebook ads through her and then more recently bought her Evergreen course, like so much investment, and it's all helped me get to where I am today as quickly as I have. So you can see that it's both the container for scaling in. You like this work around the six steps I just took you through and also investing in the right things. That are the fundamental parts of building a scalable business, an uncapped source of income as well, let me tell you. So that is the six.
Speaker 1:Now I wanted to tell you a brief version of how this has played out in my own business. I shared this today with the Build your Human Design business, minimind, which I've just launched, and I have six incredible women already on the inside. There's a couple of spots still open if you're interested in this. We had an incredible call this morning and this is a program where I am literally taking the group behind the scenes of everything I've done to build my human design focused business. Like no gatekeeping, every um. Like how I do business strategy, how I do marketing strategy, my business strategies, my marketing strategies, how I create my offers, how they all work together, the tech I use, like every bit of it. How I create my offers, how they all work together. The tech I use, like every bit of it, how I build out my content strategy, the principles and the intelligence behind that. It's the works. And on our call today, which was really about intention setting and me hearing what everybody really wants to get out of it. I shared with them how I can't wait to actually go and go behind the curtain, because the truth is it's looked easy, but it's been a real process of following these six steps to get me to where I am now, where things feel so much easier than they ever have. So long game cultivation.
Speaker 1:My gate 32 story goes like this when I decided to go all in on human design for marketing, I was sitting on a beach. Butterflies and bees were around me, had a complete full body intuitive hit made that decision and in that same like moment on the beach, I wrote my business strategy. Like I came up with okay, that's what I'm doing, what does that look like? So I could really see there was clear space in the fusion of human design and marketing. Whilst the human design plus business had become quite populated, there was still this let's call it blue ocean. That's a book, by the way. Blue ocean, not red ocean. Red ocean is where all the competition is.
Speaker 1:Blue ocean is what I could see was possible for me, and from there I determined that I would spend at least six months building my profile and that was going to take a lot of effort, by the way like building my profile as an expert in this meant demonstrating that day in, day out, with my own unique perspectives, with my depth of experience and wisdom. It meant so much content creation without an expectation of clients coming, because why would you sign up to work with me in this space if I hadn't built my authority right? So, even though I'd been in business in this space, if I hadn't built my authority right? So, even though I'd been in business for four years and I'd already built a multiple six-figure business, I had to get comfortable with my income going backwards and I had savings. So I knew that it was going to cost me. It was going to cost me money to do this. There's no way I could keep bringing in the amount of money that I was bringing in and do this at the same time.
Speaker 1:I also knew that for me to do to build the kind of profile that I wanted, that I needed to be everywhere, that when you heard about human design and wanted to understand how it could help you with your marketing, then I would be part of, or an option when it came to answers. That also meant I can't do that on my own. I can only create and distribute so much content. So I need to have serious support team. So that also cost me money that I hadn't spent at that level before and I mean I did have the luxury of having a business mastermind that I already had signups for.
Speaker 1:That was not human design related, but it was a legacy product, so I didn't have zero income. I had that as my baseline and off I went onto this long game strategy that I built. That was like I know it's not going to be year one that I'm going to be out in front here. It's five years time. I'm still working to the five year vision of when I can work one or two days a week and what I'm doing now is going to pay off. But this slowing down which occurred and after it took me four months to actually sell a human design product. So I spent January to April just profile, profile, profile. After that I built my first product and I had built enough equity in this direction that I had five or six people say yes and that was the beginning of me monetizing in this space.
Speaker 1:Now I'm not going to take you through every step of the journey. That's behind the scenes for people that are in my paid world but, as you can see, that process that is playing the long game. Now I'm in this entirely new place. It's 21 months in and I have people buying human design focused offers from me every single day, every day. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but I'd be shocked if it was less than 20 to 25 days a month. Sales come in that are human design for marketing related. It blows my mind that this is where we're at and we're so early in the vision and the pieces that I've put in place in the last 20 months around growing the number of people that see my work. That is growing every day, and I'm talking about things like website traffic, audience, the size of my audience on all the different platforms, like that's just growing and growing, and growing, and over the course of this time, I've put the right processes and systems and offers in place so that the more audience comes to me. Now it's inevitable that more sales will come, which I think is a really powerful story for you as well.
Speaker 1:You know, before I close out this episode, I had a call with a Frequency Project client that had access to me for one off call and we got on the phone. We got onto Zoom and she said look, I just really want to scale my business and I want to get off the tools. I won't tell you more than that. I want to remain, keep her privacy. But she wanted to be off the tools and scaling through her coaching and mentoring more. And she's like I just don't know how to do this because I have so much demand for what I do when I'm on the tools that I don't have enough time to make the rest of what I see as my future happen.
Speaker 1:And we had this conversation. I'm like it's not going to happen until you're prepared to slow down and be okay with less income for a period of time in service of more in the long term. She needs team and that is going to take profits or even savings. Who knows to get set up and that process is not fast. Like to build, or like attract and attain the right people and then have the standard operating procedures getting technical now. The standard operating procedures getting technical now that mean that they can continue to add value. That is a process as well that I've been on in this last 20 months, that you know it's taken a lot of time, but it's. You know. Speed up phase is here. It's phenomenal, and this is what I said to her like you are not going to scale until you are okay with holding the faith that that's coming, and making decisions now that feel like they cost you money, time, all of it. So I trust this has been valuable for you.
Speaker 1:Let me know, send me an Instagram message anytime. Thank you so much for being here. I am so excited about how much this platform, this podcast, has grown over the last little while.
